Fairway expansion and realignment on 1st hole at The Dunes
The Dunes Golf Links – Design advisory works
Designed by Tony Cashmore and developed by owner Duncan Andrews, The Dunes is Victoria’s most popular public access golf course, and arguably its most successful.
While the sandy soils and dunesland setting are ideal for quality linksy golf, and year-round conditioning is always superb, the popularity of the two courses at The Dunes have created some design and maintenance (wear) issues.
Over the past few years I have worked closely with owners Duncan and Campbell Andrews and superintendent Simon Muller on various changes at The Dunes, including some bunker reduction and the expansion of select tee pads.
Notable changes undertaken have included:
The Dunes – Championship Course
-
Expansion of the 1st fairway, realignment of the tee and reduction/repositioning of drive bunkers
-
Removal of large wasteland bunkering through the 7th and 16th fairways
-
Drive bunker removal and fairway realignment on 9th hole
-
Bunker removal on holes 3, 5, 12 and 14.
The Dunes – The Cups Course
-
Alternate tees built on all 9 holes
-
New green site on the par three 5th/14th hole
-
New green site on the par three 1st/10th hole
-
Bunker reduction on holes 2, 3, 4, 8
